We are delighted to announce a continued strong performance in our key stage 5 results and are very proud and pleased with the achievement of students at Post-16.
The average grade for A level subjects was C- whilst for vocational subjects it was Merit+, which is in line with the national average.
More than a third of the grades awarded were equivalent A/A* whilst more than 72% of the grades achieved were at a level equivalent to A*-C. Students achieved 70 grades at A/A* or equivalent and 154 grades at A* to C or equivalent.
The proportion of students achieving A*-A at A level has more than doubled and has improved significantly across vocational subjects which demonstrates a continued improvement in the quality of teaching and learning provided to all our students at KS5.
Around three quarters of the subjects at KS5 secured a higher Average Point Score compared to 2023. Particularly pleasingly, disadvantaged learners achieved strongly in comparison to their peers. More than half of our subjects achieved an Average Point Score of over 30 worth an equivalent grade of C.
Particularly strong subject performance included: history, art and design, photography, product design, sport, business studies and law.
Notable student performance includes:
- Joseph: A*, A, and Distinction;
- Robert: 2 As, and a B;
- Bobby: A, C and Distinction*;
- Jessica: A, C and Distinction*;
- Ann-Marie: A, C and Distinction*; and

“This is testament to the hard work and dedication shown by our diligent students, supportive parents and amazing staff body. We wish all our Year 13 students the very best wishes for their further education and world of work.”
Lesley Broom, Chair of Governors added:
“I am delighted with these results and congratulate all our students on their hard work and wish them well for their future education and careers. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the parents and carers of our students for all the support that they have given to them and the school in achieving these results. Finally a big thank you to all of the staff at Leigh Academy Hugh Christie for their continuing dedication to our students.”
Parents and students have also extended their appreciation with one Year 13 parent commenting, “We are so grateful for everything the academy has done for my child. My son has achieved his full potential because of the care and high quality education the academy has provided throughout his journey. When he started secondary school, he was feeling very nervous and he has grown into a very happy, confident and mature young person. We couldn’t have asked for more from the academy. Thank you.”
