Dear Parents and Carers,

Subject: Year 9 Options Information and Parents’ Evening

As we approach this important stage in your child’s education, we are beginning the process of selecting subject options for Key Stage 4. These decisions will determine the subjects your child studies in Years 10 and 11 and will play a key role in shaping their future pathways.

We are extremely proud of our Year 9 students, who have shown excellent commitment to their learning and have fully embraced the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP). The skills, knowledge, and learning habits they have developed through the MYP provide a strong foundation as they move towards their first formal qualifications.

Over the next two years, students will follow a range of examination courses that will prepare them for further study in our Sixth Form, college, apprenticeships, or employment. At Leigh Academy Hugh Christie, we are committed to maintaining high academic standards and providing the support needed for every student to achieve their full potential. Our strong examination outcomes reflect this commitment, and we are confident your child will continue to succeed.

Key Stage 4 Curriculum

Throughout Years 7–9, students have followed a broad and balanced curriculum that meets National Curriculum requirements while aligning with the IB MYP framework. From September 2026, as they enter Key Stage 4, students will move on to a curriculum that combines core subjects with a carefully selected range of optional courses, allowing them to develop their interests and strengths.

Year 9 Options Information Evening & Parents’ Evening

To support students and parents through the options process, we will be holding a Year 9 Options Information Evening alongside the Year 9 Parents’ Evening on Thursday 5th March.   Our presentation on year 9 options will take place between 3pm-3.30pm.   The evening will provide:

  • Clear guidance on the options process and next steps
  • An opportunity to hear about Key Stage 4 courses
  • Time to discuss your child’s current progress with subject teachers

From 3.30pm onwards, appointments will last 5 minutes to ensure as many parents as possible are able to speak with staff. Please note that, due to staff commitments, it may not be possible to meet with every teacher.  Appointments should be booked using the My Child At School (MCAS) system. To book:

  1. Log into your MCAS account
  2. Select Parents’ Evening
  3. Choose your preferred time slots

Appointment booking is open now and will close on Wednesday 4th March at 12:00pm.

If you experience any difficulties or need to request a change after this time, please contact your child’s College Admin Team with your preferred subject and time. Your request will be passed on to the relevant teacher, who will confirm availability.
