Service as Action project

Dear Parents and Carers,

Further to my letter dated 12th January regarding the MYP Service as Action Charity Challenge, I am writing with a warm reminder for our Year 7 families as students continue their fantastic efforts with their Service as Action project.

As previously outlined, Year 7 advisory groups are currently working during their Wednesday advisory sessions to raise awareness and funds for Babon’s Cancer Support, a wonderful local charity based in Tonbridge that provides vital support to families affected by cancer. This is a cause that is very close to our community, and it has been encouraging to see students engaging positively with the project so far.

The project will culminate in our community Park Run in Tonbridge on Saturday 21st March at 9:00am. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to demonstrate their commitment, teamwork, and community spirit. Students taking part should attend wearing their academy PE kit and ensure they are dressed appropriately for the weather on the day.

I will be there alongside several members of staff to take part and support the students, and we are very much looking forward to coming together as a community. I have also been delighted to encourage my own friends and family to donate to this wonderful cause, and every contribution truly does make a difference.

I fully appreciate that not every student and family will be able to attend due to other commitments. Advisory teachers will therefore be speaking with students about how they are contributing in alternative ways to raise awareness or support the charity if they are unable to attend the Park Run. The key focus is meaningful engagement and participation.

Please do take a few moments to speak with your child about:

  • What they have learned about Babon’s Cancer Support
  • How they are engaging with the project
  • How they are helping to raise awareness or funds

We have created a JustGiving page for donations, and I have included the link below, along with a copy of the flyer that was shared with students before the half-term break.

Any support you are able to provide, whether through discussion at home, encouragement, attendance, or donation is very much appreciated. It is wonderful to see our Year 7 students developing into caring, reflective and community-minded young people.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Yours faithfully
