Student Leadership

At Leigh Academy Hugh Christie, we believe that every student has the potential to be a leader, and we are committed to providing a wide range of opportunities for students to develop leadership skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. We aim to empower students to take active roles in their academy community.

We are completely revamping our student leadership this year and are looking to build on the existing program by adding some of the opportunities listed below:

Opportunities for Student Leadership:

  • Student Council: A platform where elected student representatives can voice the concerns and suggestions of their peers. The Student Council will play an active role in shaping academy policies, organising events, and enhancing the academy environment.
  • Student Leaders: Selected senior students are given the responsibility to support younger students, help maintain academy standards, and assist in the smooth running of academy events. Student Leaders are key role models and ambassadors of our academy values.
  • Leadership through the IB Middle Years Program (MYP): All students will have the opportunity to become a leader within our Middle Years Program at leigh Academy Hugh Christie.  Students can choose to lead an event when completing their Service as Action project in years seven and eight.  Those students in year 9 can have a similar opportunity to lead an action/event with their Community Project.  Both projects will enable all students to collaborate and lead others if they wish to do so, either within the local community outside of the Academy or as part of the Academy within.  All Students also have the great opportunity to become MYP ambassadors.
  • College Captains: Students who represent the values of their college will earn the chance to represent their college as ‘College Captains’. They will be role models for younger students in the college and be involved in helping at inter-college events
  • Subject Ambassadors: Students passionate about specific subjects can take on leadership roles to promote and support their chosen subject across the academy. Subject Ambassadors work with teachers to plan activities, offer peer tutoring, and inspire others.
  • Eco and Well-being Committees: For those interested in environmental sustainability or promoting mental health and well-being, these committees will allow students to lead projects that make a positive impact on the academy and wider community.
  • Sports Leaders: Students with a passion for sport can take on leadership roles in organising and running sporting events, helping younger students in PE, and promoting the benefits of healthy living and teamwork.
  • Digital Leaders: With technology playing an ever-increasing role in education, our Digital Leaders help to promote responsible digital citizenship and support their peers in using technology effectively.

Why Leadership Matters At LAHC, we recognize that leadership is not just about titles, but about developing essential skills like teamwork, communication, responsibility, and resilience. Our leadership programs are designed to build confidence and prepare students to be active, thoughtful leaders in the academy and beyond.
