Dear Parent/ Guardian,
We are pleased to inform you that this year the Year 12 Work Experience Programme will take place from Monday 14th July to Tuesday 22nd July. This valuable opportunity enables students to gain hands on experience in the workplace, develop essential employability skills and explore future career pathways.
Support for Students
Students will receive guidance on securing placements, CV writing, and interview preparation. Through our bespoke advisory programme, lessons will be delivered to equip students with knowledge to select meaningful work experience placements that support their career pathway.
Our careers team will assist those struggling to find placements to ensure all students benefit from this experience.
Resources for students, parents and carers:
- Unifrog – Work experience guide – Get work experience ready
- Springpod – We encourage all students to sign up to Springpod so they can access virtual work experience and find out more about the range of employers for physical work experience.
Next Steps
We encourage parents/carers to support their child in finding a placement suited to their interests. Students must return completed placement forms by Wednesday 14th May 2025.
To complete the placement form, please click this link: LINK
Further information regarding employer expectations and paperwork will be shared directly with employers once we receive their placement details.
Objectives of Work Experience
Our work experience programme aligns with the Gatsby Benchmarks, the national framework for good career guidance, ensuring students:
- Gain firsthand experience of the workplace (Benchmark 6)
- Engage with employers to develop professional skills (Benchmark 5)
- Understand how subjects link to future careers (Benchmark 4)
- Build confidence, resilience, and communication skills (Benchmark 3)
By participating, students will develop key attributes such as teamwork, problem-solving, and workplace etiquette—essential for their transition to further education or employment.
Legislation and Safeguarding
We adhere to Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations and Department for Education (DfE) guidelines regarding work experience. Employers must provide a safe working environment, and all placements undergo risk assessments. Employers working with students will be expected to follow appropriate safeguarding policies, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of every participant.
Can you host any students?
