Safeguarding within the Curriculum
The Academy’s curriculum is designed to provide every pupil with a broad and rich foundation of knowledge and skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for the next stage of their education and for active, confident participation in the wider world.
A key aspect of this is safeguarding. To help pupils remain safe now and in the future, our curriculum includes dedicated teaching of safeguarding content, with a particular emphasis on online safety.
Safeguarding is woven into multiple areas of learning, including ICT, PSHRE lessons and assemblies. Our approach is to build pupils’ knowledge and skills in layers, helping them to retain and apply their learning effectively so they can make safe and responsible choices.
Our safeguarding curriculum is preventative, proactive, and responsive to the needs of our pupils.
The impact of this carefully sequenced curriculum can be seen in the way pupils develop the knowledge and confidence to keep themselves safe and make positive choices throughout their lives. This impact is measured not only through data such as behaviour events, incidents of prejudiced behaviour, safeguarding concerns, referrals, and attendance, but also through the daily culture and lived experiences of pupils and staff within our academy. External safeguarding reviews, alongside pupil, parent, and staff surveys, further affirm the strength and effectiveness of our approach.
