Sixth Form Responsibilities

Head Students & Senior Prefects

Any student in the 6th Form is invited to apply for the posts of Head Student, Senior Prefect or Committee Member.

Why The Roles Matter:        

  • These are prestigious roles, which are looked on favourably by employers and institutes of further and higher education.
  • The roles demonstrate the ability to hold a position of responsibility.
  • They illustrate the ability to think beyond oneself and to recognise the importance and value of community.
  • The roles develop self-confidence, independence, communication and leadership skills.

The procedure for application and appointments for Head Students:

  • A letter of application explaining one’s suitability for the role.
  • An interview before a panel of senior teachers, advisors and students to discuss the ideas they have proposed in their letters and to be asked questions.

  • A letter of application explaining one’s suitability for the role.
  • Discussions of applications by the advisors and senior teachers.

Suitable candidates will be required to:

  • Establish and lead a Sixth Form Committee.
  • Canvas the views of students to aid the developments and improvements in the Sixth Form.
  • To be leading ambassadors of the school at open events and consultation events.
  • Liaise with the Head of the Sixth Form and House Community Leaders.
  • Lead a ‘State of the Sixth Form’ presentation to the Leadership Team twice per year.
  • Play an active role in the Student Parliament.
  • Actively promote Hugh Christie Sixth Form in the wider community.

  • Support the Head and Deputy Head Boys and Girls with the operation of the Sixth Form Committee.
  • Represent the school at open events, productions and exhibitions.
  •  Assist teaching staff with break or lunch duties or in showing around prospective students/parents.
  • Play an active role with the Student Leaders.
