PSHRE Curriculum Intent

At Leigh Academy Hugh Christie, we believe that personal development is just as important as academic success. Through PSHE and Religious Studies, we help you become a globally aware citizen, ready to make safe and informed decisions.

PSHE: Skills for Life

Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education (PSHE) is built into your weekly schedule and Advisory sessions. We tackle the real-world issues that matter most:

  • Health & Relationships: Navigating sex, drugs, and mental health education with confidence.

  • Financial Literacy: Learning how to manage money and understand the economy.

  • Risk & Responsibility: Developing the skills to judge risks and understand your impact on your community and society.

Religious Studies: Exploring World Views

It is more important than ever to understand how different religions and worldviews shape our planet. Our curriculum encourages you to be inquisitive and engage in deep debates about the moral issues we face today.

What You Will Gain:

  • Diversity & Expression: See how different cultures express their spirituality and beliefs across the globe.

  • Impact & Evaluation: Study how religions affect individuals and societies on a local and national level.

  • Dialogue & Debate: Learn how to talk about big ideas and understand the various ways people perceive the world.

  • Community Cohesion: Discover how shared beliefs and different perspectives can bring communities together.

RSE Curriculum Intent

At Leigh Academy Hugh Christie, RSE is a key part of our Personal Development Programme. We aim to help you grow up in an increasingly complex world—learning how to live safely and happily, both online and off.

Making Informed Decisions

Our curriculum is built to give you the knowledge you need to navigate your academic and social life in a positive way. We focus on three main areas:

  • Well-being: Understanding your own mental and physical health.

  • Healthy Relationships: Learning how to build positive connections with others.

  • The Digital World: How to stay safe and make smart choices online.

We place a high priority on guidance. We want every student to know exactly how to seek advice and support, no matter what complex situations they may face.

Our Curriculum

Our lessons follow the Government’s Statutory Guidance and are delivered through weekly PSHRE sessions and our tutor programme. We tackle the “big” topics head-on, including:

  • Health and Sex Education

  • Drug and Alcohol Awareness

  • Financial Education (Money Management)

By exploring these issues, we help you understand your responsibilities to yourself, your family, and the wider community.

Find Out More

We believe in working closely with our community to ensure our curriculum is transparent and helpful.

RE Curriculum Intent

Our RE curriculum provides a rich and diverse look at world religions and views. We aim to help you become a global citizen by exploring “big questions” through investigation and inquiry.

What You Will Study

We want to help you develop a deep knowledge base and a passion for understanding the world. Our curriculum focuses on:

  • World Religions & Ethics: Developing a clear understanding of the six main world religions and their beliefs.

  • Inquiry & Problem Solving: Learning how to investigate complex topics and form your own informed opinions.

  • Identity & Attitude: Helping you understand your own place in the world while respecting others.

  • Digital Citizenship: Learning how to use digital technology effectively and responsibly.

Values and Respect

A key part of RE is promoting Fundamental British Values. We focus on building:

  • Mutual Respect: Valuing others, even when they have different faiths or beliefs.

  • Tolerance & Equality: Understanding the importance of diversity in modern society.

  • Religious Experience: Exploring how worship, symbols, and beliefs connect across different cultures.

How You Will Learn

RE is taught through our weekly PSHRE lessons for all year groups. You can find the curriculum intent and subject content here.

By the end of the course, you will be able to make links between different faiths and understand the similarities and differences that shape our world today.
